Metal School - Satan (ft. Blind Fury / Pariah)
A look back at Satan, who also went by Blind Fury and Pariah at certain points in the career after releasing an amazing first album and getting largely overlooked due to their name. Join me as I take a look at the music and the albums of one of the most consistently awesome NWOBHM bands, featuring Brian Ross on vocals, Graeme English on bass, Sean Taylor on drums, and the dynamic duo of Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins on guitar.

Metal School - Arkangel

Widely considered the longest-running Latin American heavy metal band, Arkangel from Venezuela was formed way back in 1978 after being inspired by KISS. They'd get the first Venezuelan music video and one of the first color TV appearances in the country, followed by an initial run of three outstanding albums. Join me as I take a look at one of the most influential South American metal bands, wh...

A look back at British metal band TANK. Originally started as a three-piece and founded by Algy Ward, TANK has gone through several lineup changes and a few small style changes, but their 80s albums are still fantastic and worth a listen (or revisit) today. A retrospective on one of the biggest metal bands from Poland. Turbo started off with a more traditional heavy metal style before switching to power/thrash with a side of death metal. They went through a couple different sounds but they are very much worth checking out. So, I hope you kick back and relax as we look at a largely unknown band here in the West, Turbo! Metal School - Cirith Ungol

A look back at Cirith Ungol, a criminally underrated band from Ventura, California. Emerging with a dark, doom-centric sound on their 1981 debut album, Frost & Fire, Cirith Ungol was perhaps a bit ahead of their time and had difficulty breaking in during their initial run. After disbanding in 1991, and being out of the music industry for 25 years, Cirith Ungol would reunite in 2016 and finally ...

If Hellhamer and Celtic Frost had never existed metal would've stagnated and possibly died in the 80's. Motorhead brought the speed and the attitude that had a massive effect on the Thrash Metal bands. Hellhammer and Celtic Frost brought the dirt and rawness that influenced almost every early death and black metal man you can name. If that wasn't enough Tom came back after a lengthy hiatus and released one of the most interesting doom metal influenced albums in years. Triptykon continues to amaze fans to this day. Their influence on modern metal cannot be overstated.

The problem with Vices is too many tracks about heavy metal and the rock-and-roll lifestyle. 'On the road to rock', 'Heavy metal shuffle', 'Stay on top' and the title track.

Quotes from famous musician and High ranking Church of Satan member and very close friend to Anton LaVey - King Diamond "Satanism is about the Powers of the Unknown. I have had hundreds of strange supernatural experiences with the occult, the other side, the beyond, whatever you want to call it that proves there is a spiritual world that can cross over into our world. Satanism is a life philosophy so within it you can have your own religion, any religion you want. Or take from various religions or your own whatever makes you happy. I have my own beliefs and Religiously Satan on a spiritual level stands for the Powers of Darkness, the Powers of the Unknown which are always all around us at all times. This is the best way to talk about these Spirits and Powers. Of course there are different types of satanism. Must need something bad and use that during ritual then you might be able to get help from these powers I believe are all around us. But that is only if they like you. I do not believe in the two christians beings god or the Devil, I believe in the Powers of the Unknown, Powers of Darkness, The Powers of the Occult what ever name you want to use. . I have done Satanic Rituals and have seen and heard spirits. You really have to respect them for the incredible power they have. I believe they come to those who they feel can handle it and who will be faithful believers." . They came to me to let me know they are here for me on my journey and that they are behind me and that they wish me good luck so I see them as my protectors almost like guardian angels. But 99 percent of the population live by the Satanic Philosophy whether they know it or not. As Anton LaVey even told me that Satanism is simply a life philosophy and NOT a religion. Personally I do not use electrical lighting at home and on my Satanic Altar or in the studio when I record vocals, only black candles as electrical lighting drives away the spirits and I love having them near me. People who see Satanism from the Christian view point are not treating these powers with respect and that is very dangerous. I once actually summoned a spirit in order to prove they are real to a girl who doubted and Satan came. My wife will not look in our mirror in fear something will come out. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. I know that rituals work. I don’t do them often because you can easily misuse them. They will get back at you if you don’t respect them. Rituals can channel the forces that surround us all the time but I respect the powers and will not abuse them in any way.. Satan is the power of the universe.

Great video. I've been a fan of both bands since the 80s and own every album on CD. I'm a little disappointed there was no mention of Black Rose. That album is really cool. Would be interesting to learn more about that time period, but there doesn't seem to be much info out there other than what's in the liner notes.

I liked Robert Mason with Lynchmob but I just can't call the band Warrant without Jani Lane. I didn't listen to Ultraphobic until I was deployed to Iraq in 2008. The song writing was really great and I don't think any other album has had such an emotional impact on me or my battle buddies and friends. I ended up really liking Warrant 98 too. Both of theses albums are underrated as far as Jani's song writing goes, you can't just put the album on and make yourself like it. If you play them while you're doing something like working in the yard or in your workshop, and let it play, you'll find yourself repeating the melodies in your head later and you'll go back and listen to them again. Chameleon for example, is a really catchy song. All in all, "Cherry Pie" and "Dog Eat Dog" are my favorite albums, but "All my Bridges are Burning" and "Stronger Now" are my favorite songs.

As a long time death metal and black metal fan, I struggle to hear things the way non-metalheads do. But I think Celtic Frost might be one of the best entry points into extreme metal. They're heavy but also groovy and not overly abrasive, like you could probably play them at a party or on mainstream rock radio and not immediately piss everyone off.
